Journal Club - Revisiting cultural competence

Journal Club is designed to give participants experience with appraising current literature and identifying best practice based on research.

Target Audience

This course is open to anyone interested in the topic.

Learning Objectives

The learner will be able to:

  • Critique the journal article by identifying the purpose, design, limitations, and results

  • Analyze how one’s own cultural background, biases, and assumptions influence clinical decision-making and interactions with patients from diverse cultural contexts.

  • Evaluate the multi-level framework of cultural competence (individual, team, organizational, and 
    systemic) to determine strategies that promote culturally appropriate care within healthcare 
    education and practice.

  •  Design an action plan that integrates affective, cognitive, and behavioral domains of cultural 
    competence, demonstrating leadership and reflective practice to foster inclusive clinical learning 
    environments.
