As maternal morbidity and mortality in the Unites States has continued to rise, almost doubling over the last 30 years, it is imperative that hospital staff are provided with current education on the leading causes such as hemorrhage and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, as well as a safe training environment for simulation drills, discussions, case studies, and feedback. It is the goal of Magee-Womens UPMC Hamot to ensure staff are competent in providing safe, quality care that contributes to the reduction of maternal morbidity and mortality.

Learning Objectives

•    Define, identify, and plan for proper care of patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
•    Define, identify, and plan for proper care and assessment of the patient receiving Magnesium Sulfate treatment.
•    Define, identify, and plan for proper care of the patient during a Condition O/A/C. 
•    Simulate patient care roles in scenarios related to maternal hypertensive crisis, utilizing Team Stepps.
•    Simulate patient care roles in scenarios related to Mag Sulfate treatment, utilizing Team Stepps.
•    Simulate patient care roles in scenarios related to patient during Condition O/A/C, utilizing Team Stepps.
