Maternal Child Symposium 2025
This is a conference for maternal child health professions of our local community. We chose health issues that mothers and children may need assistance with. The conference attendees usually consist of nurses and lactation consultants that work in the maternity, nursery and pediatric hospital units, OB and Pediatric offices and Nurse Family Partnership program. WIC agency staff and other local community agencies that work with this patient population. We do sometimes have physicians attend also.
Target Audience
Nurses and lactation consultants that work in the maternity, nursery and pediatric hospital units.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to...
1. list 3 ways to support a baby who is not latching, provide information about antenatal colostrum expression and identify products for treating sore nipple that can be harmful.
2. list 3 or more common drugs of abuse and the clinical and general indicators that a patient presents.
3. Identify effects of marijuana during pregnancy and nursing period of a child,
4. explain the impact of alcohol exposure during pregnancy and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
5. describe screening methods for prenatal alcohol use.
6. learn about and use resources to address alcohol use in pregnancy.
7. refer clients to local community programs that can assist/enhance the maternal/child relationship
