Medication Safety in Special Populations: Focus on Pregnancy & Lactation and Pediatrics_Online
The goal of this continuing education program is to educate attendees on medication safety in the specialized populations of pregnancy and lactation and pediatrics.
Target Audience
This course is targeted to educate Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Social Workers.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify 3 appropriate resources for assessing medication safety in pregnancy and lactation
- Describe the pharmacokinetic properties that impact potential drug transfer across the placenta and in breast milk
- Determine if a medication is safe for use in specific scenarios
- Describe unique risk factors of pediatric patients that make them prone to medication errors
- Identify evidence-based medication safety strategies in prescribing, dispensing, and monitoring pediatric medications
- Recognize the pharmacist’s role in pediatric medication safety.
