OAPP Grand Rounds - Preparing the International Traveler: Updates in Travel Medicine (WISER)

This online CME activity reviews best practices in pre‑travel care, including how to assess travel itineraries, identify destination‑specific health risks, and select appropriate vaccinations and prophylactic medications. Learners will also explore common travel‑related illnesses, such as traveler’s diarrhea and malaria, and apply evidence‑based strategies and standardized workflows to improve documentation, coordination, and patient safety in outpatient travel medicine.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Assess travelers who will benefit from specific pre‑travel vaccinations, including hepatitis A, typhoid fever, and other country‑specific immunizations.
  • Differentiate common causes of traveler’s diarrhea and select appropriate treatment strategies.
  • Apply evidence‑based guidance on the use of prophylactic malaria medications, including recognition of common side effects.
  • Determine appropriate indications for yellow fever vaccination and recognize associated side effects.
