Obstetric Hemorrhage and Severe Hypertension Procedures
For the care team to function optimally in a true emergency, it is essential that all members know the procedures they should follow in the event of obstetric hemorrhage. Decreasing blood pressure through rapid recognition and treatment has been shown to decrease morbidity and mortality in pregnant patients. It is imperative to provide education for staff and providers on how to recognize severe hypertension/preeclampsia and provide evidence-based treatments to lower blood pressure in a safe and timely manner.
This document provides required education for all staff and providers who treat pregnant and postpartum patients about UPMC's obstetric hemorrhage and severe hypertension procedures to meet Joint Commission standards for maternal safety.
