Target Audience

Pediatricians, Family Medicine Physicians, Residents, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Practice Staff

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to understand how to:
1. Define “sex trafficking” and “commercial sexual exploitation of children” (CSEC) and will be able to list the federal and Pennsylvania state laws in place related to CSEC.
2. List individual, community, and societal risk factors that make a person more susceptible to CSEC along with the red flags and indicators of CSEC in patients.
3. Identify the methods of recruitment and conditioning used by exploiters and traffickers.
4. Identify, describe, and respond to the complex trauma experienced by child victims and learn to engage with them in a trauma-informed manner within a medical setting.
5. Utilize the appropriate steps to take if they suspect CSEC and what resources they can utilize to best support the child.
