PALS Renewal Course

This course will review how to recognize certain pediatric emergencies and the skills to properly treat certain events. After completing this course, individuals will be able to work together as a inter-professional team to properly manage and treat patients experiencing life threatening events such as respiratory distress/failure, shock, or cardiac arrhythmias

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Perform high-quality CPR per AHA recommendations
  • Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate interventions
  • Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
  • Describe roles and responsibilities of team members and elements of an effective team
  • Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
  • Differentiate between compensated and decompensated shock,
  • Identify causes of different types of shock such as hypovolemic, obstructive, cardiogenic, and distributive
  • Identify common arrhythmias in pediatric patients
  • Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
  • Demonstrate treatment of common arrhythmias
