Peer-on-Peer (PoP) Response Team at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh - LIVE
This program will highlight the Peer - on- peer program (PoP) at UPMC: Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The Peer-on-Peer Response team seeks to improve the follow-up medical and emotional/behavioral health care after a young person presents to the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Emergency Department for care following a peer-on-peer assault. The aim is to improve secondary prevention, advocacy and coordination of a multidisciplinary response.
Children who are victims of Peer-on-peer (PoP) assaults are not protected by the Child Protective Services (CPS) system and Law Enforcement (e.g., police) often does not get involved and if they do, they are focused on prosecution of the perpetrator rather than treatment of the victim. Over the past five years, we have seen an increasing number of children who are evaluated in the CHP ED due to PoP assaults (sometimes the same child has been evaluated multiple times).
