1:10 – 1:20 What is the 2nd Victim Phenomenon + Stress Reactions – Amin, Magill 

  • Trajectory of recovery after an adverse event

1:20 – 1:35  Peer Support -- Amin 

  • Why peer support 
  • Barriers to seeking support 
  • Don’ts of intervention/Dos of intervention 
  • Intervention reminders 

1:35 - 1:50 Mirror Techniques -- Deans (interactive) 

  • Restatement 
  • Paraphrase 
  • Reflection of Emotion 

1:50 – 2:30 SAFER-R model + samples of interventions -- Amin, Magill 

10 minute break (second half 90 min) 

2:40 – 3:00  Practice Scenario- Amin, Magill, Dean, other volunteers 

  • Introduce activity + share sample scenario 
  • Break into small group rooms (groups of 2) for 15 minutes to practice (partner 1 goes-case assigned) 

3:00 – 3:15 Debriefing from Scenario- Amin, Magill, Deans 

  • Back as a larger group 
  • Start with peer support, then person receiving support 

3:15 – 3:35 Practice Scenario- Amin, Magill, Deans, other volunteers 

  • Break into small group rooms (groups of 3) for 15 minutes, partner 2 goes  

3:35– 4:00 Debriefing from Scenario- Amin, Magill, Deans


 

4:00-4:20 Review logistics of program + confidentiality - Pacella/Barbash, Deans, Turner 

  • How the program works, how calls come in, and when and where to refer/consult 
  • Lack of documentation of interventions
