This four-part series is an advanced training series for preceptors at UPMC St. Margaret that focuses on the roles and responsibilities of the preceptor.

Target Audience

This course is open to nurses who serve as preceptors within UPMC St. Margaret.

Learning Objectives

  • Verbalize how to act as an effective socializing agent for their preceptee
  • Recognize signs and contributing factors of reality shock for new preceptees
  • Discuss various types of errors and identify ways to prevent them from occurring with orientees
  • Identify strategies to orient preceptees to the organizational culture of UPMC St. Margaret through discussions of delegation, bullying in healthcare, and unit-specific information
  • Recognize signs and prevention measures of preceptor burnout
