QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training

October 6, 2022

QPR is a 2-hour educational program designed to teach professionals as well as lay “gatekeepers” the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond.  The process follows three steps: (1) Question the person’s desire or intent regarding suicide, (2) Persuade the person to seek and accept help, and (3) Refer the person to appropriate resources.

Learning Objectives

  1. Recall facts about suicide and suicide prevention.
  2. Identify warning signs of suicide.
  3. Demonstrate how to ask someone directly about their desire or intent regarding suicide.
  4. Demonstrate verbal and non-verbal skills used to persuade someone who is having thoughts of suicide to seek and accept help.
  5. Identify local resources available to help someone who is having thoughts of suicide.
  6. Describe how to get help for someone having thoughts of suicide.
