This skills session will address rehabilitation-specific skills and education to the rehab team so that they can provide safe and high quality care to all rehab patients.  Team-based education to encourage team-building.

Target Audience

Registered Nurses 

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • identify areas on the body that are at high risk for developing pressure injuries in patients with spinal cord injury.
  • identify key elements of neurogenic bowel and bladder care for a patient with a spinal cord injury.
  • create a behavior plan for a child on the inpatient rehab unit.
  • demonstrate safe transfer of patient by utilizing proper transfer techniques (stand-pivot, sliding board, and Hoyer transfers).
  • demonstrate proper technique for application of residual limb wrap and shrinker device
  • identify 3 cognitive and communication interventions when caring for a patient who has sustained a traumatic brain injury.
  •  identify safety equipment needed for patients with tracheostomy.
  • identify education system resources available made available to patients post-discharge from CHRU
