STAT MedEvac Spring Simulation 5.25.2023
Practical conference which will provide the nurse learner updates on patient care with respect to Impella ventricular assist devices, high risk obstetrics, advanced mechanical ventilation, adult trauma and advanced airway management. High fidelity simulations in which the nurse learner will participate will allow the nurse learner to demonstrate understanding and integration of care concepts.
Target Audience
Flight Nurse, Flight Paramedic, Flight Physician
Learning Objectives
Following completion of the sessions, the learner will:
- Demonstrate the clinical assessment of a woman in active labor.
- Assess and manage fetal HR decelerations effectively.
- Identify and address the presenting complication of childbirth (e.g., nuchal cord, breech, and prolapsed cord).
- Apply the Neonatal Resuscitation Programs’ Flow Diagram to resuscitate a newborn in a later phase of respiratory failure.
- Understand the signs and symptoms of cardiogenic shock.
- Apply STAT Medevac protocols for cardiogenic shock and Impella maintenance.
- Understand the role of assist devices in cardiogenic shock.
- Analyze the process for transporting the cardiogenic shock patient with Impella device.
- Identify the patient at risk of airway compromise in the infant, and child with congenital and non-congenital deformity.
- Identify the patient at risk of airway compromise in the adult patient populations.
- Identify resources for managing the difficult airway to include planning, equipment, and back-up.
- Demonstrate appropriate techniques for managing the contaminated airway.
- Apply the appropriate airway algorithm for the management of the compromised airway.
- Review examples of congenital and non-congenital deformities in pediatric airway patients.
- Demonstrate the clinical assessment of the trauma patient.
- Identify hemodynamic variability in the patient with poly-trauma.
- Apply the appropriate interventions for the patient with poly-trauma.
- Demonstrate appropriate airway management techniques for the compromised poly-trauma patient as it relates to the PACT Study/LITES Network.
- Demonstrate corrective steps for iGel supraglottic airway which fails to ventilate.
- Apply CC404 (Mechanical Ventilation – Adult)
- Demonstrates the assessment, monitoring, and management of a patient with mixed respiratory compliance disease processes.
- Recognizes signs and symptoms of poor ventilation.
- Recognizes obstructive vs restrictive lung patterns on the Hamilton ventilator.
- Determines when to consult for ventilator orders and troubleshooting.
- Identifies appropriate monitoring screens on the Hamilton ventilator.
