This course aims to enhance nursing knowledge of the AHA Stroke Practice Guidelines including VTE prophylaxis, bedside dysphagia screening, and interdisciplinary care for stroke patients.

Target Audience

This course is open to nurses caring for stroke patients at UPMC St. Margaret.

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate the components of the NIH stroke scale and the neurological exam
  • Recognize the importance of the AHA Stroke Practice Guidelines and understand the application to clinical practice
  • Identify components of the care of stroke patients
  • Understand the indications for use, proper administration, and patient monitoring for tenecteplase
