The “CORE” Curriculum
Learning Objectives
1. Discuss importance of stroke continuum of care from EMS to hospital.
2. Using vascular & anatomical approaches, describe specific stroke syndromes & their clinical correlation.
3. Describe the nursing care of the patient with Ischemic Stroke.
4. Discuss current diagnostic tools used to evaluate stroke.
5. Describe pharmacologic management of BP in acute stroke.
6. Discuss use of Alteplase in acute stroke.
7. Review side effects of these Pharmacologic Therapies and Nursing care implications.
8. Discuss components of bedside swallow assessment.
9. Recognize warning signs and symptoms of swallowing difficulty.
10. Discuss appropriate action of an individual experiencing swallowing difficulty.
11. Describe the nursing care of the subarachnoid hemorrhage patient.
12. Discuss the administration and scoring of the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale. (NIHSS).
13. Recognize the significance of changes in NIHSS score. 14. Discuss the importance of recognizing clinical decline and when to call the physician.
