Town Hall - CMS Changes to Payment Evaluation and Management (E/M) Services_December 14th
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized new regulatory changes to their payment policies for Evaluation and Management (E/M) services, effective January 1, 2023. These changes build on the revisions to Office and Outpatient E/M codes, previously implemented in 2021, which sought to emphasize medical decision making and reduce documentation burden.
Updated guidelines for 2023 will affect: Hospital Inpatient Services, Observation Care Services, Consultations, Emergency Department Services, and Prolonged Services Codes.
The revisions are applicable to all insurance payers, and it is imperative that you become familiar with these new guidelines.
