ForwardTox Tidbits for Toxic Trauma Troublemaker
Trauma care is increasingly complicated by the rising prevalence of substance use disorder among patients. This presentation will review the newest updates in toxicology in trauma, with a focus on emerging adulterants in the illicit drug supply that directly impact emergency and critical care management. Particular attention will be given to medetomidine, a potent veterinary alpha‑2 agonist now widely detected in fentanyl products and associated with prolonged sedation, naloxone‑resistant overdose presentations, and a rapidly progressive, severe withdrawal syndrome.
