Train the Trainer - Nurses to Perform Clinical Skills Training & Evaluate Competencies of Medical Assistant Staff
Description
This program is designed for training RNs/LPNs to train Medical Assistants to collect blood samples for a variety of reason, including medical testing, blood transfusions and blood donations. Blood is collected primarily through venipuncture, although other methods may be used, heel stick or butterfly needles. Through classroom and practice, the RNs/LPNs will properly learn how to collect blood and properly give injections used for diagnostic testing and proper healthcare. Emphasis is on medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, ethics, legalities, patient relations, anatomy and physiology. Upon completion, the RNs/LPNs should be able to perform safely procedures necessary for both venipuncture and injections.

• Safety Procedures • Injection types and sites • Equipment used (Venipuncture and Capillary Puncture) • Vacutainer collection tubes, types and uses • Proper identification of patient • Location of suitable venipuncture and capillary puncture sites • Location/method of suitable and proper injections sites – Intramuscular, Subcutaneous, and intradermal • Decontamination techniques • Proper techniques for performing the collections • Vacutainer tube labeling • Timely delivery of the specimen to the laboratory for testing • Infection Control
