This course will prepare nurses to care for patients in need of a solid organ transplant as well as patients that have received a solid organ transplant.

Learning Objectives

Following this course 

  1. Participants will be able to discuss why individuals with a metabolic disorder can be transplanted
  2. Participants will be able to discuss infection concerns for transplant recipients
  3. Participants will be able to define specific labs values for liver recipients
  4. Participants will be able to discuss care of the child with acute liver failure
  5. Participants will be able to state functions of the liver
  6. Participants will be able to state consequences of ascites
  7. Participants will be able to discuss why we do liver transplants for metabolic disorders
  8. Participants will be able to discuss care of the child with acute liver failure
  9. Participants will be able to list 3 specific labs that are monitored for liver rejection
  10. Participants will be able to list specific labs that are monitored for liver rejection
  11. Participants will be able to list 3 psychosocial stressors for transplant families and their child.
  12. Participants will be able to list 3 possible side effects of tacrolimus
  13. Participants will be able to list treatment for electrolyte abnormalities related to Tacrolimus side effects
