University of Pittsburgh HIPAA Privacy and Security Awareness for Physicians, Mid-Level Providers, Dentists, Staff, and Students working in University of Pittsburgh clinical facilities, all Staff and Faculty working in other HIPAA-covered departments

This course provides an overview of University of Pittsburgh privacy and security requirements, including federal and state laws governing the protection of patient and other confidential information. Learners will review their responsibilities for safeguarding protected health information, recognizing potential privacy or security breaches, and following University of Pittsburgh policies to ensure compliance.

Target Audience

Physicians and non-physician practitioners who provide clinical services, or staff and students who encounter protected health information at University of Pittsburgh facilities. All staff and faculty working in other HIPAA-covered departments at the University of Pittsburgh. All students, staff and faculty in the Schools of Health Sciences

Learning Objectives

As a result of participating in this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Improve their management of the responsibilities of privacy and security as related to protecting patient information
  • Implement safeguards for protecting patient information
  • Closely follow recommended processes and procedures in the event that they suspect a breach may have occurred
  • Access and apply University of Pittsburgh policies pertaining to privacy and security compliance
