UPMC Adult Adolescent SANE Course Section 1
The online learning program aims to enhance the care provided to patients who have experienced sexual assault by ensuring access to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) or Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFEs) at UPMC hospitals, following best practice recommendations from various authoritative bodies. This initiative is expected to improve patient experiences, outcomes, and care plan compliance, while also standardizing practices across the healthcare system, leading to quality care, staff satisfaction, cost savings, and community benefits. The program will train more staff, increase the number of certified SANEs, and protocolize care, positioning UPMC ahead of potential state support for SANE/SAFE access. Additionally, it will prepare learners to understand the role of SANEs, address the health consequences faced by survivors, support them using trauma-informed care principles, collaborate with community agencies, manage vicarious trauma, and provide inclusive care for LGBTQIA individuals.
Target Audience
Physician-Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses.
