The Trauma Nurse Course ....
combines on-line learning (Part 1), classroom lectures (Part 2) and hands-on skills sessions geared toward educating staff on the acute care of the trauma patient.
The topics presented during the 3 classes include:
~ Mechanism of Injury, ~ Prehospital Care, ~ Initial Trauma Assessment and Management, ~ Head Trauma, Neuro Assessment, C-Spine Immobilization, ~ Thorough discussions of Trauma specific to each body system, ~ Psychological Aspects of Trauma, ~ Trauma care with specific considerations for Pregnancy, Pediatrics and the Elderly ~ Thermal Injury, ~ Organ and Tissue Donation, ~ Substance abuse, ~ Nutritional Needs, ~ Rehabilitation Concepts, ~ Anesthesia agents and Pain management
Target Audience
This program is required for nurses within their 1st year of hire at UPMC Hamot, who are working in Trauma Care Areas (including ED, OR, PACU, TNICU, 4MRIU, 4 South, Floatpool and Pediatrics)

The maximum number of hours awarded for this Continuing Nursing Education activity is 24.0 contact hours. Contact hours will be given for participants who successfully complete all continuing education (CE) activities.

2) Attend all 3 days of lecture
3) Pass the final exam
4) Complete the online evaluation for each presentation attended within 14 business days after the completion of the inperson classes.
