UPMC Health Plan Preceptor Workshop: Documentation Online Module

The Heath Plan Preceptor Workshop provides clinical staff with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively orient new staff to provide safe, effective, and efficient care coordination for UPMC Health Plan members. This online module covers onboarding/orientation documentation procedures and best practices.

SPECIAL NOTE:
There is no educational content to this course. This course is designed to supplement training that has already occurred. This course is designed to only administer the post-test and collect CME evaluations.

  • Describe procedures for documenting orientee progress and escalating challenging preceptee behaviors to leadership as appropriate.
  • Summarize the importance of a structured onboarding/orientation checklist that is tailored to the needs of the organization, aligned with the workflows of the staff, and meets specific departmental competency needs.

Michelle began her nursing career in 1982 following graduation from  Carlow  University.  Her nursing experience is varied consisting of the following work experiences:  General medical surgical nursing, adolescent chemical dependency, physical rehabilitation, home care, and case management.  During Michelle’s career she has held the roles of staff nurse, clinical coordinator, discharge advocate, telephonic case manager, supervisor, and manager.  In 2014 Michelle obtained an MSN  from Waynesburg University with concentration on administration and education.  She has been at UPMC Health Plan since 2008, where her passion for care management developed.  She became a certified care manager in 2021, and currently holds the role of Sr. clinical education coordinator on the clinical, training, and development team. In addition, Michelle fulfills the role of nurse planner at UPMC Health Plan. 
 
Maureen Pentz, BSN, RN, CCM
Senior Professional Care Manager, Medicare Clinical Case Management, UPMC Health Plan
 
Maureen is a sr. professional care manager on the MC telephonic team.  She is also the facilitator of the professional development workgroup for the ISD Professional Practice Council. In addition, Maureen service as a member of the parent advisor council for the PA Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition.  She is also the Executive Director of the Isaiah Pentz Memorial Carnival.  Maureen obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin and is also a certified case manager.  She also is a first aid instructor for the American Heart Association.  Her clinical background consists of clinical intensive care, emergency department, high risk OB & medically fragile children, pediatrics, and med-surg., simulation coordinator.  Maureen also held the role of a nursing instructor with focus on maternal child nursing.
