Contraindication of Using Nirmatrelvir-Ritonavir (Paxlovid™) With Clozapine

This training is designed to address mental health care professionals who may not realize that medication is under EUA, making it less likely that clinicians and patients and the population at large are aware of life-threatening drug-drug interactions with medications that are highly dependent on CYP3A4 for clearance (e.g., Paxlovid™) which in addition to COVID-19’s impact on the hepatic cytochromes may result in serious medical consequences for individual patients

Target Audience

This course is designed for health care professionals including physicians, other prescribers, pharmacists, nurses, patients and caregivers, among others.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the mechanism of action of Paxlovid™
  • Recognize and recall drug-drug interactions between Paxlovid™ and certain antipsychotics
  • Identify clinical indications and considerations for a patient prescribed clozapine and Paxlovid™.
