Critical Care Fellowship Session 2 - July 10, 2025
This activity is for novice nurses to provide advanced education to expand his/her knowledge of critical care concepts and improve nursing practice.
- Clinical teams do not effectively communicate the rationale and benefits of appropriate antibiotic prescribing to patients.
- Patients with perinatal mood disorders are not diagnosed in a timely manner.
- Patients do not receive consistent recommendations and care practices from different healthcare team members.

Learning Objectives
ICU
Learners will be able to discuss the CIWA tool for medication management for the patient in alcohol withdrawal and the need to escalate care to critical care unit.
Learners will be able to verbalize the importance and process of performing a passive leg raise.
Learners will be to interpret arterial waveforms to discern treatment of hypotension.
Learners will be able to identify the appropriate vasopressor used in septic shock and nursing considerations of vasopressors.
Learners will be able to discuss the purpose, management and documentation of spontaneous awakening trials.
Learner will be able to identify the evolution of ischemic stroke to hemorrhagic and nursing interventions.
Learners will be able to discuss basic pathophysiology and concepts of advanced devices including ECMO, CRRT, etc.
Learners will be able discuss the care for patients with various types of temporary pacemakers.
Learners will review low volume, high risk medications seen in the critical care setting.
IMCU
Learners will be able to identify the three major tracheostomy emergencies and the appropriate nursing interventions.
Learners will be able to verbalize correct procedure in determining if patient needs RRT v. starting BLS.
Leaners will be able to distinguish the differences between delirium and dementia using the CAM assessment tool.
Learner will review toxicology and common medications used to treat overdose patients.
