Critical Care Fellowship Session One, 9/17/2024

This is a follow-up program to Critical Care Orientation, approximately 6 months after the beginning of the critical care course. The content of this course is based on feedback from key stakeholders and registered nurses to build on critical care concepts introduced during orientation.

Orientation is intended to provide a foundation of core critical care concepts so that the new nurse can function independently and intervene appropriately.  The Critical Care Fellowship will provide the novice nurse with the opportunity to expand his or her knowledge of complex critical care concepts to improve their nursing practice.

Learning Objectives

Learners will be able to interpret a 12 lead EKG to identify area of infarct and acuity of infarct to anticipate cath lab intervention.

Learners will be able to discuss the monitoring and care of a patient being treated with a cardiac medication drip.

Leaners will be able to identify correct placement of lines and devices on X-ray.

Learners will be able to discuss and interpret ABG values, anticipate ventilator setting changes, and manage ventilator alarms.

Learners will be able to care for an intubated patient by managing sedative and paralytic medications based on ventilator compliance.

Learners will be able to discuss the Rapid Sequence Intubation process and the care of the newly intubated patient.

Learners will be able to discuss the CIWA tool for medication management for the patient in alcohol withdrawal and the need to escalate care to critical care unit.
