Decision-Making in Pregnancy: Ethical Issues
The purpose of this program is to explore current perinatal ethical issues in the context of life-limiting fetal diagnoses such as trisomy 18. Perinatal palliative care will be introduced and discussed as it relates to the ethical issues.

Learning Objectives
- Recall current perinatal ethical issues as well as limitations of classic approaches, such as the “problem with autonomy in fetal medicine”
- Discuss “life-limiting fetal diagnoses” such as trisomy 18 and how these diagnoses help to frame the perinatal ethical discussion
- Define and explain the concept of perinatal palliative care and discuss how it can provide structure for navigating complicated pregnancies
- Recall recommendations to bioethicists and health care providers for navigating challenging perinatal ethical cases
