DM Session 4: Diabetes Technology Updates

The purpose of this educational activity is to inform clinical staff of the most recent technological updates for glucose management for people with diabetes, and review continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) updates, data interpretation, and its optimal use in the management of diabetes.

Learning Objectives

Nursing/SW/EMT/Paramedics:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the most recent technical advances for the management of diabetes.
  2. Summarize the basic function of continuous glucose monitoring devices, tips for patient selection and the basics for interpreting the data they provide.
  3. Describe the benefits of continuous glucose monitoring in the management of diabetes.

Pharmacists:

  1. Discuss improved diabetes outcomes associated with continuous glucose monitoring use
  2. Summarize the difference in blood glucose readings with fingerstick testing and sensor glucose readings with continuous glucose devices.

June Lamb has been the Director of the Clinical Training & Education team at UPMC Health Plan since 2021. Prior to joining the Clinical Training & Education team, June was Director of the Practice Based Care Management team.  June has expertise in Case Management and is also a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), and has been a champion of promoting diabetes competency for clinicians to ensure optimal care for our members with diabetes at UPMC Health Plan

CCM CE will be provided: 1 CE - CCM COA will be sent via email from UPMC Health Plan nurse planner approximately 6-8 weeks following the live date of the course.

This activity is eligible for endorsed credit for UPMC Health Plan EMTs and Paramedics.  Complete ETHOS course work, obtain the attendance certificate, and submit to EMS governing body for 1 CE credit(s).

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, University of Pittsburgh is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program.
