Evoking Hope and Confidence in Coaching and Care Management

Confidence is essential for people to commit to making a change. This session will focus on using motivational interviewing (MI) skills to evoke hope and confidence from members who recognize the importance of making a change but lack the confidence to do so.

ISD RNs / SW / Health Coaches / Paramedics / EMTs /Pharmacists

Learning Objectives

ANCC / SW Objectives:

  1. Discuss the distinction between importance and confidence
  2. Explain strategies to evoke hope and confidence
  3. Apply Motivational Interviewing strategies in practice to evoke hope and confidence

Pharmacy Objectives:

  1. Discuss how improving hope and confidence can lead to improved chronic disease state management and health wellness
  2. Reflect on your pharmacist Motivational Interviewing skills that could enhance or limit patient’s hope and confidence in their medication regimen

Indira is a Clinical Engagement Coordinator at UPMC Health Plan where she is responsible for training and skill development of health coaches and care managers. She has a bachelor's degree in Biology and Economics and a master's in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. Indira is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She has been practicing health coaching since 2016.

 

Brittany Chapman, MSW, NBC-HWC

Brittany is a Clinical Engagement Coordinator at UPMC Health Plan. Her responsibilities include professional skill development and training of care managers and health coaches. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Wright State University and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. Brittany is also a National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach with about 6 years of experience in Health Coaching.

In support of improving patient care, the University of Pittsburgh is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Pharmacy (CPE)

Nursing (CNE)
The maximum number of hours awarded for this Continuing Nursing Education activity is 2 contact hour(s).

CCM CE will be provided:  2 CE - CCM COA will be sent via email from UPMC Health Plan nurse planner approximately 6-8 weeks following the live date of the course.

This activity is eligible for endorsed credit for UPMC Health Plan EMTs and Paramedics.  Complete ETHOS course work, obtain the attendance certificate, and submit to EMS governing body for 2 CE credit(s).

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, University of Pittsburgh is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit.
