Geriatric Fracture and Metabolic Bone Health, 12:00PM
Fragility fractures account for a stunning percentage of hospitalizations and surgical procedures in patients over the age of 65. Goals of treatment have evolved and include medical management, physical therapy and frequently, surgical procedures. Lastly, post-injury care is essential with regard to both recovery and future fracture prevention.
The goal of this presentation is to encourage multidisciplinary conversations in both the inpatient and outpatient setting when managing a fragility fracture. Discussions should include hospitalists, geriatricians, orthopedic surgeons, endocrinology, case management, physical and occupational therapy and be focused both on acute recovery and long term prevention of additional injury.
