Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia Identification and Management
This activity will create a greater understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of heparin induced thrombocytopenia amongst physicians and pharmacists. This activity will allow for pharmacists to assist in the management of this patient population by recommending the use of guideline directed therapy recommendations.
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to: Describe diagnostic criteria of heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in terms of platelet effect, 4Ts score, hit panel, and serotonin release assay. Outline pharmacologic management and duration of therapy for HIT based on risk criteria and diagnostic results. Apply current recommendations to a patient case
