Home Study: Less Pain, More Gain: Principles for Optimizing Postoperative Analgesia
There is a large surgical patient population at UPMC Pinnacle due to the variety of surgeries offered at our center including but not limited to cardiac, colorectal, orthopedic, gynecologic, and kidney transplant. Pharmacists are responsible for reviewing patient profiles, assessing medication appropriateness, and optimizing medication regimens. Additionally, pharmacists promote opioid stewardship principles within the institution. Pharmacists often verify orders for postoperative pain medications and collaborate with providers to assess need for postoperative pain management and design optimal pain medication regimens.
