Introduction to SBIRT Training Peru 8.19.21

August 19, 2021

Program Evaluation Research Unit (PERU)

Research indicates that a significant proportion of patients who misuse alcohol or drugs are likely to be present in different healthcare settings. It is estimated that: 23.4% of primary care patients in the U.S., aged 18 and older, are misusing alcohol or drugs and 39.9% of emergency department patients in the U.S., aged 18 and older, are misusing alcohol or drugs. SBIRT is an evidence-based public health/preventive practice that healthcare professionals can utilize to accurately identify patients who misuse alcohol or other drugs and match these patients to effective interventions aimed at decreasing or eliminating their alcohol and drug use.
