Magee AMP Approval Course Module 3

Pharmacists need to know first and second-line treatment regimens for a wide array of disease states including sepsis, septic shock, bacteremias, and candidiasis.

Patients do not receive consistent antibiotic recommendations from different members of the pharmacy team. The goal of this education will be to standardize this process.

Learning Objectives

Following this presentation, pharmacists should be able to address all these objectives in relation to bacteremia, sepsis, fungemia, and candidiasis.

-Discuss epidemiology, risk factors, and causative organisms based on each type of clinical infection outlined above

-Review pertinent positive/negative information included in infection work-up that may help aid in antibiotic or antifungal selection

-Detail the UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital-specific recommendations for first- and second-line antibiotic regimens including those with severe beta-lactam allergies

-Highlight complex clinical cases and review how pharmacists can aid in antimicrobial stewardship
