Magee ASP Approval Course Module 1_Enduring

To ensure appropriate antibiotic prescribing on an inpatient basis. Antibiotics are over-prescribed and often times too broad of coverage is utilized leading to unnecessary healthcare costs, possible adverse events, and increase in resistant organisms. This education will allow for pharmacist approval and assessment as opposed to the need for paging the ASP provider on call.

Education leading to the ability to approve ASP restricted antibiotics will result in quicker administration of therapy, streamlined verification and dispensing, and reduction in interruptions and workload for ASP provider on call.

- Access resources to determine bacteria classification and treatment

- List the coverage spectrum for each antibiotic class

- Interpret MIC laboratory data

- Utilize an antibiogram to suggest appropriate empiric treatment for a patient
