Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation the participant will 

1.       Review indications for pain and sedation medications

2.       Understand pharmacologic aspects of common NICU pain and sedation medications

3.       Describe indications for and methods of weaning

 

Ensuring proper identification of patients needing pain/ sedation medications and then prescribing therapies will assist in keeping the patient clinically stable. This should enhance communication and critically thinking between healthcare team members if everyone is working to reach a common goal
