Memorial Healthcare System & UPMC Procirca Summer Adult ECMO Academy
Memorial Healthcare System and UPMC Procirca are excited to announce an Adult ECMO Simulation Course. The course will be held in person at the Memorial Regional Hospital Conference Center on August 29 and 30, 2024. This two-day simulation course is designed for the bedside ECMO caregiver including physicians, physician assistants, perfusionists, nurses, nurse practitioners, ECMO specialists, and respiratory therapists. The Memorial Healthcare System and UPMC Procirca Summer Adult ECMO Academy provides high-fidelity simulation training to provide a well-rounded look at the care of the adult ECMO patient. The learner will be able to troubleshoot ECMO scenarios along with learning cannulation techniques with this high-fidelity course.
Target Audience
Intended for the bedside ECMO caregiver including physicians, physician assistants, perfusionists, nurses, nurse practitioners, ECMO specialists,
and respiratory therapists.
Learning Objectives
• Understand basic principles of ECLS
• Identify indications and contraindications for ECLS support in the adult patient
• Have a foundational understanding of the function of the components of the ECLS circuit
• Understand concerns of managing patients on ECLS
• Describe complications that may occur while on ECLS support
• Understand the cannulation, weaning and decannulation of the ECLS patient
• Respond to the most common ECLS emergencies
• Demonstrate ECLS knowledge in high fidelity simulation scenarios

ELSO Foundations Adult ECMO Training Course is a pre-requisite required prior to this simulation course. Submission to eaugust@mhs.net of the certificate of completion is also required prior to attending this simulation course. The ELSO Foundations Course is an online, self-paced consisting of 53 modules that cover over 80 learning objectives foundational to Adult ECMO care. The course can be found by accessing this link, ELSO Academy Online | Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation | ELSO, on the ELSO website. You will first have to log in or create an account in order to register. The cost of this foundational education course is $625, and the user has 90 days from the date of purchase to complete the course.
Cancellation policy: All cancellations must be sent via email, nealka3@upmc.edu. Learners will receive a partial refund of $2,150 before July 29, 2024. After July 29, 2024, a $1,850 fee will be assessed, and no refunds will be made after August 23, 2024.
