MI Skills Building: Supporting Resiliency and Sustainability in Health Behavior Change
Supporting members in maintaining permanent habits despite adversity, trauma, or sources of stress is a key component and advanced skill with building towards resiliency and sustainability. This session will support participants with applying the advanced motivational interviewing skillset of supporting members to manage the ups and downs of everyday life and continue with newly established healthy behaviors.

- Assess ability to understand the impact that resiliency and sustainability has on supporting a patient’s individual behavior change
- Apply the components of resiliency and sustainability to case study examples to support patients in maintaining behavioral changes

Renee Greenwald, MS, NBC-HWC
Renee Greenwald is the Manager of Clinical Training & Quality Assurance at UPMC Health Plan where she is responsible for supporting the Health Coach Academy team with developing the Motivational Interviewing skillset of UPMC Health Plan clinicians through various training and Quality Assurance Review. She has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University and a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, specializing in wellness and fitness and wellness coaching from PennWest California. Renee is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and is a Nationally Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach with about 5 years of experience in health coaching.
Amanda Gabarda, EdD, MPH, NBC-HWC
Dr. Gabarda is the Senior Director of Clinical Training & Development at UPMC Health Plan where she is responsible for the creation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of training and skill development of lifestyle health coaches and care managers. She has a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University, a Master of Public Health from Walden University, and a Doctor of Education in Health and Physical Activity from the University of Pittsburgh. Ms. Gabarda is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers, a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach, and a Certified Health Education Specialist and has 15+ years of experience in health promotion and health coaching.
In support of improving patient care, the University of Pittsburgh is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
This activity is eligible for endorsed credit for UPMC Health Plan EMTs and Paramedics. Complete ETHOS course work, obtain the attendance certificate, and submit to EMS governing body for 2 CE credit(s).
