Neonatal Nursing Fellowship Class- Hematology & Infection

There is a need for increased knowledge relating to nicu patients with hematologic and infectious disease processes. This class will provide nursing staff with:  an increased understanding of the why for medical interventions and will be able to discuss pertinent details with the medical team

Learning Objectives

After attending the class the learner will be able to :

1. Describe the coagulation pathways and their application to the NICU patient.

2. Describe the pathophysiology of hyperbilirubinemia in the neonatal population

3. Participate in a neonatal exchange transfusion simulation

4. Discuss the clinical presentation and management of septic newborns

5. Describe pharmacologic principles related to medication administration in the newborn
