1. Identify similarities and differences in infant vs pediatric formulas

2. Explain how allergies can have an impact on feeding

3. Identify symptoms infantile reflux and name management strategies

4. Name current feeding tools and strategies for therapeutic intervention

5. Identify adapted baby led weaning strategies for medically complicated children

11:30-12:15: It’s All About the Tongue, ‘Bout the Tongue, To Trouble! - Dr. Raymond Maguire, DO, and Katie White CCC-SLP, IBCLC

  • Participants will identify clinical presentation of ankyloglossia including anatomical and physiological characteristics.
  • Participants will identify 3 ways ankyloglossia affects swallowing.
  • Participants will list 3 treatment options for ankyloglossia.

1:00-2:00 Adverse Food Reactions – Dr. Desha Jordan, MD

  • Participants will be able to define FPIES, EoE, IgE mediated allergy
  • Particpants will be able to list first step in management of FPIES, EoE and IgE mediated allergy

2-2:45:  Infantile Reflux – Dr. Sirine Belaid, MD

  • Participants will be able to define the physiologic mechanisms of infantile reflux
  • Participants will be able to identify two common symptoms of infantile reflux

3:00-4:00 : Tools of Feeding, Kristin Clarkson, CRNP and Garrett Bowers, OTR/L

  • Participants will be able to identify proper posture and supports to use during feeding
  • Participants will be able identify DME that could assist in positioning for feeding
  • Participants will be able to identify the appropriate referral for common feeding concerns
  • Participants will be able to identify medical management options to address sialorrhea and facilitate feeding development
  • Participants will be able to identify proper tools and equipment to use for oral stimulation , self feeding and progression of oral development

 

 4:00- 5:00 Baby Lead Weaning with Medically Complicated/ Hypotonic Patients, Kim Kubistek, OTD, OTR/L, CNT,  and Colleen Lyons CCC-SLP 

  • Participant will describe 2 differences between baby lead weaning and traditional weaning.
  • Participate will list 3 baby lead weaning adaptations for medically complicated children.
  • Participant will identify an environmental, caregiver education, skill impact, and safety components for therapy goals.
