Forward2025 Inpatient Nurse Education Day - April 21, 2025
RN and LPN inpatient staff members currently have a baseline knowledge of the inpatient medical-surgical population, but NDNQI quality measures, average length of stay, HCAHPS reports, and incident reports indicate the ongoing education is needed. Information from key stakeholders on the medical-surgical departments state that additional learning is needed. Nurses who are new to these units also voiced a need for further education on included topics. The gap identified include knowledge, practice, and skill. Numerous changes have occurred over the past year in the in the medical-surgical departments which require education reinforcement to continue to provide high quality patient care and the best patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives
- Learners will demonstrate correct screening for dysphagia using the Yale dysphagia screening tool.
- Learners will discuss in class the benefits and barriers of policies, order adherence, and documentation.
- Learners will demonstrate application of restraints and discuss appropriate documentation.
- Learners will identify situations when it is appropriate to use a lift and demonstrate correct use of lift equipment.
- Learners will complete an EKG competency exam.
- Learners will demonstrate correct hourly rounding patient interaction.
