ForwardUniversity of Pittsburgh Three Rivers Otolaryngology Update
The field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery continues to evolve with new technologies, treatment options, and scientific knowledge. More than ever, medicine needs leadership from providers who can rise to meet the challenges of today. The meeting will discuss an array of topics in the field of otolaryngology, with a special focus on the Department’s five novel educational tracks: Global and Community Health, Surgeon-Scientist, Entrepreneurship, Quality and Patient Safety, and Education. Alumni of the program from across the country will share their personal experiences transforming healthcare. Participants will gain valuable insights into how they can leave their mark on the field through an investment in their own skills and interests.
Target Audience
Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, audiologists, speech therapists and other interested health care professionals.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of the course, the participant should be able to:
1. Describe the roles of global and community health, surgeon-scientist development, entrepreneurship, patient safety and quality improvement, and education in advancing contemporary otolaryngology practice.
2. Identify opportunities within their own practice or training environment to engage in quality improvement, research, innovation, community engagement, or educational initiatives.
3. Analyze real-world examples shared by faculty and alumni to distinguish effective strategies for integrating nonclinical domains into clinical practice.
4. Apply principles of patient safety, quality improvement, and interprofessional collaboration to improve clinical workflows and patient care within their healthcare teams.
5. Design a personalized professional development approach aligned with individual interests and institutional resources that supports system-level impact and improved patient outcomes.
