Nurses working in obstetrics face many challenges every day maintaining evidence-based, up-to-date knowledge in their constantly evolving practice. Applying knowledge into practice is essential for best patient outcomes, for both experienced and novice nurses.

This activity will impact interprofessional healthcare team by increasing communication, teamwork, knowledge and skills.

Learning Objectives

Culture and staff support session: to identify characteristics of a respectful environment and collaborative teamwork, and incorporate that information into daily practice.

Neonatal hypoglycemia: identify the contributing factors, signs and symptoms and appropriate treatment of hypoglycemia in the neonate.

Diabetes in pregnancy: describe the pathophysiologic changes of pregnancy that may predispose a patient to development of gestational diabetes.

High acuity patient simulation: demonstrate appropriate clinical and critical thinking skills in response to an obstetric crisis in simulation.
