Optimizing Care for Muslim Patients by Knowing the Basics of Islam

The Muslim religion is a fast-growing population in the United States with diverse ethnic backgrounds. To provide culturally-sensitive care, it is important for nursing staff to understand the religious beliefs, traditions, and practices of Islam.

Culturally-sensitive care is imperative for nursing to provide holistic care and advocate for their patients. The interdisciplinary team also provides better patient-specific care when they are more culturally sensitive. Understanding the beliefs and practices of Islam can benefit the interdisciplinary team to improve care in this population.
