Pediatric End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC)

Due to the changes in society, healthcare economics, and service delivery, it is necessary to improve professional preparation for palliative care. There is a need for interdisciplinary team collaboration within a palliative care model. This education promotes effective communication between provider and patients.

This activity will improve interprofessional communication in promoting interdisciplinary team collaboration as well as empower bedside nurses to provide primary palliative care to patients and families.

Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the philosophy and principles of hospice and palliative care with a nursing model of care
  • Identify the need for interdisciplinary team collaboration within a palliative care model.
  • Describe the role of the nurse in providing quality palliative care for children and families.
  • Recognize changes in society, healthcare economics, and service delivery that necessitate improved professional preparation for palliative care.
  • Discuss the unique aspects of suffering for children and families facing a life-threatening illness or event.
