Professionalism for the Clinical Preceptor
Preceptors are often busy clinicians without formal precepting training. This course aims to address the gaps that exist in preceptor professionalism. This course provides the information needed to address best practices in professionalism.
The PA Studies Program does not have an selection, onboarding, or professional development process for its clinical preceptors, especially regarding the key competencies of preparing for and onboarding a student reveal a lack of competence and performance by preceptors.
Target Audience
This course is designed for Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, and Physician Assistants
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Articulate a comprehensive understanding of professionalism, including its core principles, behaviors, and the impact it has on the preceptor-student relationship
- Effectively communicate techniques to establish clear expectations
- Provide constructive feedback and address challenges while maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment
- Acquire tools to handle challenging scenarios, such as underperforming students or difficult conversations, with professionalism, empathy, and constructive guidance implement strategies
- Model and instill professionalism in their students, helping them develop the necessary skills and attitudes for successful careers in their chosen field
