
#Respond2reality: The Impacts of social media on Mental Health and Domestic Violence
Social Isolation has been a norm for the past two years resulting in the increasing needs to use digital platforms as a means of communication. Our youth and young adults have had an increase in mental health issues as well as a rise in domestic violence because of being socially isolated. This program is intended to enlighten the participants of different media platforms that may not be safe and encourage communication with specialists, parents or caregivers in providing tools for prevention and knowledge for assistance with any mental health issues or domestic violence situations.
Target Audience
Target audience includes healthcare providers, legal professionals, social workers, teachers, clergy, and general community members.
Learning Objectives
Ryan Klingensmith, LPC, NCC Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor. Founder of Shape the Sky: Creating responsible kids on smartphones.
1. The participant will learn how social media has changed how youth “digitally date.”
2. The participant will learn what apps are most common in digital dating.
3. The participant will learn how technology can be used in abusive was in unhealthy relationships.

1. Participant will understand limitations of the current PFA framework and what is being done to strengthen it.
2. Participant will be able to recall Alina’s Sheykhet’s story and understand how Alina’s Light honors her and other domestic violence victims.
3. Participant will have awareness of of the epidemic proportions that domestic violence has reached.
Dr. Maya Ragavan, MD Pediatrician
1. The speaker will review the urgent responsibility for pediatric healthcare providers in providing healing centered care to IPV survivors and their children.
2. The speaker will provide tangible guidance for pediatric healthcare teams on how best to support IPV survivors and their children.
3. The speaker will describe how to collaborate with community-based victim service agencies.
Alan L. McGill, Senior Supervisory Special Agent Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Office of Public Engagement
1. The participant will be able to identify at least three dangerous drugs commonly used to commit sexual assaults
2. The participant will identify romance scam techniques to groom adults.
3. The participant will identify how social media is used to deceive and identify victims.
