Shock States: Review of Vasopressors and Inotropes

Vasoactive agents, including vasopressors and inotropes, can temporarily provide blood pressure support to hypotensive patients. Critical care pharmacotherapy is rapidly evolving and newer literature is available for the use of vasoactive agents. Pharmacists can play a vital role in the management of critically ill patients by understanding the unique characteristics of each medication and its specific role in the treatment of various types of shock.
