This activity will increase awareness of the updated recommendations regarding the diagnosis and treatment of hyperglycemic crisis. These recommendations are not consistently reflected in practice and may be implemented more frequently following this activity.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to... Recognize updated diagnostic criteria and updated severity of illness for HHS and DKA Select appropriate fluids for initial resuscitation in an adult patient experiencing hyperglycemic crisis Create an appropriate treatment regimen for a patient experiencing hyperglycemic crisis including insulin and electrolyte repletion when necessary Identify lab values correlating to hyperglycemic crisis resolution in accordance with updated the 2024 consensus report
